An Overview on Media Player Software

Media player is one kind of application software that is used to play media files such as videos, audios and images etc. All media players do not support all formats of audio and video and also image. There are several types of media files but it is divided into three main categories audio, video and image. I will try to introduce basic types of media files and their formats with suitable players.

Video players and video file formats: Media player by Microsoft and media player classic are the most used media software around the world. VLC and power DVD are also popular media player software because these players can play almost all of the media files, such as .mkv, .wmv, .flv, .mp4, .3gp, .dat and .rmv etc. Power DVD is mostly used DVD player that can play .vob files and HD 3D videos. It can be used as a player of other formats by downloading some extension.

Audio players and file formats: Almost all of the video players that I have introduced in this article and also those that didn’t introduce can play audios. There are no suitable audio players that can only play audios. Mp3 is the most popular audio file format and almost every one uses this audio file format due to the lightness and flexibility. AMR and WAV are also popular audio file formats but these formats are rarely used.

A lots of free and paid media players software are available on the software market. You can select any one of them for you but you must need to be sure that your selected player will run on your operating system because media players are not platform independent but depends on the operating system. You can ask your software provider and can ensure that the software will run your system.
